Why Should My Child Get a Physical?

Find out why your child should be coming in once a year for a physical exam.physicals

The summer always seems to fly by and before you know it the kids are back at school. Of course, every year your child should be coming in to visit our Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and Palm City, FL, pediatricians - Dr. Lynda Bideau, Dr. Luis Pineiro and Dr. Alexandria Niewiadomski-Ayala. You may be wondering just how important these physicals are and why your child should get them. We’re glad you asked!

If your child is healthy and isn’t dealing with any chronic health problems then your little one only has to come in once a year to get a physical exam. These physical exams, or wellness checkups, are a great way to make sure that your child remains healthy and that any health problems are detected in their earliest stages when they are easier to treat.

When your child was a newborn it was easy to bring them in regularly for care. Of course, as they get older you may be less inclined to visit our Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and Palm City children’s doctor as often as you should. These sports physicals are often required by your child’s school and without it they may not be able to participate in sports. Don’t let your child get benched this school year.

During your child’s visit we will check their vitals and perform a comprehensive physical examination to check everything from eye and heart health to reflexes. This is also a great time to make sure your child is up-to-date on their vaccines before they enter another school year. If your child is going to participate in a certain sport, we will want to make sure that they are healthy enough for this specific activity. We will also check for signs and symptoms of previous injuries that may not have been properly treated.

Lastly, we will provide helpful tips for how to prevent sports-related injuries in your child, from recommending certain protective sports equipment to showing them certain warm-up exercises that they should perform before hitting the field. These visits are important for a number of reasons, but we really just want to make sure your child is well equipped for another healthy school year.
